Another year brings the annual fundraising Gala held for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute in New York City. This years theme was 'Gilded Glamor'
Among the guests was Hillary Clinton, who said she was attending for the first time in 20 years to celebrate the fashion and spirit of America. This year certainly left people with mixed reviews, from many believing that not all celebrities understood the assignment.
let's take a look at some of the looks that stood out to us the most.
Firstly we couldn't let this go unnoticed.... Kim Kardashian was lucky enough to wear the original dress worn by Marilyn Monroe in 1962, when she sang Happy Birthday to President JFK. Kardashian confessed to losing 16 lbs in three weeks to fit into the dress, a little extreme if you ask us. The Dress was made by Jean Louis (and originally sketched by a young Bob Mackie). In 1999 the dress was auctioned for $1.26 million and in 2016 it auctioned again for $4.6 million. According to sources, Marilyn Monroe paid around $1440 for the dress in 1962, which is about $13,000 today.

Another look that really stood out for us was Gossip Girl star Blake Lively in Versace, she surprised the crowd by unfolding her dress to reveal another longer dress. Her look was inspired by Manhattan's detailed architecture and paid recognition to the Empire State Building.

Moving on to Hailey Bieber, who was looking so elegant in white. Her dress was YSL and styled a feather coat. Her look was inspired by Jerry Hall and an amazing passage about a young Vanderbilt in The Gilded Age.

Billie Eilish was in custom Gucci, and looking like she came straight out of a painting. Her look was inspired by the Madame Paul Poirson, painting by John Singer Sargent. According to Poirson family history, Sargent offered to paint Poirson’s wife in lieu of rent payments for the studio space.

Gigi Hadid, in a red Atelier Versace puffer coat which she wore over a matching catsuit.
"in a modern interpretation of coats from the late 1800s and a refresh of the Dolman silhouette for a new age of glamour. Crafted in a deep jewel-toned burgundy silk duchesse, the oversized opera coat features a degrade quilted finish and is worn over a latex catsuit with boned corset and Atelier Versace pointed neckline. The corset and the overexaggerated volume of the jacket confront each other in a decadent display of contrast inspired by the volume and dramatic change in womenswear silhouettes of late 1800s"
